Helping the orphan children
Pskov • December 17th, 2011
On December 17th, 2011, in the city of Pskov, the Foundation held its annual action of help to the orphan children, whose parents perished in the performance of soldier’s duty. Many military units of the Pskov Oblast took part in combat activities in the hotspots, where they suffered considerable losses. Caring for children of the soldiers who have fallen for the Motherland in the times of peace is a most important task of the Orthodox charity.
Initially, the Foundation helped the children of the heroic 6th Company of Pskov paratroopers perished in the North Caucasus. In the course of time, other orphan children who lost their parents, servicepersons of various regiments, have been taken care of, too.
In December 2011, in the Assembly Hall of the Airborne Force 76th assault combat division, the Foundation employees met with orphan children and relatives of the perished soldiers. The Head of the Regional Programs Department, N. I. Goryachkin, on behalf of the Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Charitable Foundation, presented the guests with the material aid the Foundation memorable badges.

"Thank God, there are people for whom the charitable help, the donation for the sake of delivering the children suffering from the society’s indifference is their life’s integral part. For these children want to be loved, to be talked to and be cared for. A most simple thing is to close one’s eyes, and make no notice, or claim it is the state that is to take care of them. But what is the state? It is its citizens, that is we, all of us. And if we are indifferent to our neighbor’s misfortune, if the mercy is not any business of ours; if we pay no heed to somebody’s else pain, if we are waiting for all this to be done by the others, then we will never understand, that any ”others” unavailable here, that it is we who are the others. The society, where people calmly go past somebody’s else misfortune or pain, has no future", said f. Oleg.
Upon completion of the official part, the Blue Berets Airborne Force ensemble made their performance.
