St. Nicholas’s relics at Pyatigorsk and Cherkessk Diocese

On June 29th, thousands of worshipers from Pyatigorsk and other towns and villages of the North Caucasus met the great Orthodox sacred thing – the reliquary with the particle of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker arrived to the capital of the North Caucasian Federal District
At the Sobornaya square Bishop Theophylact of Pyatigorsk and Cherkessk took over the sacred relicts from the hands of the priests of the Diocese. The relicts were met by the Bishop, priesthood and pilgrims together with the representatives of the administration and heads of the resort towns.

The reliquary with the relicts was in the church in the name of the icon of the Mother of God “Joy of all who Sorrow”, at the territory of the Episcopal town residence – Spassky [the Saviour] Cathedral.

Saturday and Sunday the reliquary was transported to the social welfare and medical institutions: “Beshtau” nursing home for veterans of work at Inozemtsevo settlement and Municipal hospital No 1; people from there were not able to leave the institutions for reasons of health.

The arrival of the relicts became possible due to cooperation between Pyatigorsk and Cherkessk Diocese and the Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker Charitable Foundation.

During all period of staying, the relicts of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the capital of the North Caucasian Federal District the activists of the Orthodox youth organizations from Pyatigorsk and Cherkessk Diocese assisted the pilgrims arrived to Pyatigorsk to venerate sacred relicts; they distributed water and bread, helped disabled and old persons, children, responded to questions. About 35,000 worshipers in all had venerated the sacred relicts.

On July 2nd, residents of Pyatigorsk and visitors of the capital of the North Caucasian Federal District saw off the relicts of St Nicholas the Wonderworker back to Moscow.
