Saint King David, the Prophet and Psalmist

7 October 2008 • Holy Mount Zion • Jerusalem city • Israel

On 7 October 2008 the Saint Nicholas The Wonderworker Charitable Foundation installed the monument to Saint King David, the Prophet and Psalmist on Holy Mount Zion in Jerusalem city. The monument cast in bronze was installed not far from the burial vault of the King, under the walls of the church of the Dormition of Our Most Holy and Glorious Mother of God and the windows of the Cenacle, where the Last Lord’s Supper had taken place.

On 6 December 2007 Holy Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and all Russia blessed installation
of the monument to Saint King David, the Prophet and Psalmist on Holy Mount Zion in
Jerusalem. The picture shows the first model of the monument.

David Susanna, culture and design counselor of Jerusalem’s mayor took the most active part in creating the monument, in making decision about installation of the monument to King David in Jerusalem and in choosing an installation site.

Municipality of Jerusalem city determined an installation site for the monument – a public garden at the entrance in the Cenacle and King David’s burial vault as well as it charged itself with construction of the pedestal to the monument.

The delegation from The Saint Nicholas
The Wonderworker Charitable Foundation
consisting of 128 members arrived in the
Holy Land for the unveiling and consecration of the monument. The delegation consisted of 7 bishops and more than 40 priests of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Reception of the delegation from The Saint Nicholas The Wonderworker Charitable Foundation by Theophil III, the Most Blessed Patriarch of Jerusalem.

The beginning of unveiling and consecration ceremony of the monument to King David.

The chairman of the Common Ecclesiastical court of the Orthodox Church Isidor,
Metropolitan of Krasnodar and Kuban headed the ceremony of the consecration
of the monument to Saint King David, the Prophet and Psalmist with the blessing
of Holy Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and all Russia.

Hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church with A.S. Demin, sculptor and the Heads of the Foundation:
- Prokl, Archbishop of Simbirsk and Melekes,
- Sergy, Metropolitan of Voronezh and Borisoglebsk,
- Gavriil, Archbishop of Blagoveshchensk and Tynda,
- Isidor, Metropolitan of Krasnodar and Kuban,
- Ignaty, Archbishop of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky,
- Panteleon, Archbishop of Rostov and Novocherkassk,
- Tikhon, bishop of Arkhangelsk and Kholmogory.

King David’s eyes and prayer are turned to Jesus,
right to the windows of the Cenacle, where the
Last Lord’s Supper took place.

The great prophecy of the 116th psalm has come
true by the installation of this monument:
«I will pay my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people,
in the courts of the house of the Lord,
in your midst, O Jerusalem. Hallelujah!»

Now it is obvious to everyone: It is Jesus the Saviour whom
King David considered his God.

Uri Lupolyanski , Jerusalem’s mayor personally determined
that installation site for the monument. Mayor’s name coincides
with the name of Uri Hetteyanin, to whose death King David
dedicated his 50th psalm.

On 12 May 2009, Pope Benedict XVI visited the
monument to King David in Jerusalem
.
